the hands & the hours

The Atelier — Hand Embroidery & Monograms, Paris–Versailles

Appolonia Linen sews fine French table linens to order in its atelier between Paris and Versailles: hand embroidery, monograms and made-to-measure pieces, each one born from a single request.

The Embroidery & the Monogram

Two letters, a thousand stitches.

A monogram is slow work: the sketch, the transfer, the frame, then thread laid down stitch by stitch until two letters hold. It cannot be hurried, and that is the point: the hours are what you inherit. Tone-on-tone white for tradition, a colour from your palette for wit, appliqué for texture.

The Art of the Monogram

Sewn to order, never from stock

There is no warehouse behind this maison. Each piece for sale or commission is cut, sewn and finished after your request arrives: your measurements, your fabric, your initials. It is slower than a shelf, and it is why an Appolonia piece fits your table and no one else's. Made-to-order pieces are quoted individually by the atelier, and confirmed in your devis within two working days.

A mother & a daughter

Estelle Bogaert learned to sew at four, at the side of her mother, Appolonia, whose name the maison carries. They still sew together: one drawing motifs in Paris, both finishing pieces in Versailles. What passes between their hands is the same thing the linen is for — something taught, kept and handed down.

A craft that keeps learning

The maison continues to train in the great Parisian métiers d'art, embroidery above all, so that each year's pieces are finer than the last.
